my whole heart

There is an empty house in my neighborhood that is in need of some overdue TLC. We drive by it all the time and remark on how tall the grass has gotten or how it's just looking rough. On this particular day as I was driving home I noticed the sun hitting the grass in a way that just made me gasp. All I could think of was putting a child in that tall grass to take some photographs. Well, it had been raining that day and I knew it was going to be muddy. I also knew that my son loves to wear his rain boots and go on "rainy day adventures". So as soon as I walked in the door I informed my husband that we were going to take some pictures. Bless him for being so supportive. He didn't even question me. We all three threw on some boots and headed over to the house. I have always said that my child is the hardest I have ever had to photograph but on this day he did AMAZING and I could not be happier with the outcome. He is my heart and I sure do love him. Here are just a few from our rainy day mini shoot.

it all started....

I came across these old prints while going through some boxes at my moms house. I took these pictures about eleven years ago with my manual camera. I developed the prints myself in the darkroom so they don't look as clean and polished as my pics today. However......This is where it all began. I was just a young photo student with no real idea of what I wanted to do. All I knew was that I loved to photograph children. I never imagined that I would one day turn that passion into a career. And to be honest I still don't feel like I'm actually "working". I love what I do so much that it really doesn't feel like a "job". I thank God before every photo shoot for giving me this gift. I just thought I would share these few pics with you and as you can see, I had a thing for crying pictures even back then.

I love when I get to take photographs for my friends. Everyone is always so relaxed which makes for great pics. I had the pleasure of taking Miss. Taylor's 1 year photos at the Isle of Palms. The day was perfect, just before sunset and Taylor put on the charm! It was a lot of running for her mommy to keep her out of the ocean but the pics turned out amazing.

The other day while cleaning my kitchen I was inspired by my antique camera collection. I have quite a few on display but one in particular grabbed my attention that day. It was an old brownie that I inherited. I've always loved it but at that moment all I could see was how cute my son would look holding it! I took him out into the yard and just let him have fun with it. At first he tried looking through the viewfinder as you would a more modern camera. (which was adorable)But after I showed him how it worked he had a blast. He was running all over the place telling me what he saw through the lens, "I see a tree, I see mommy". It melted my heart. I would love to be able to see the world through the eyes of my son and photography is the closest I'll ever get.
